Prism Art Creatives
I have always been interested in planets, universes, clouds, bubbles, ethereal space, atoms, smallest particles to largest celestial bodies.
The way planets are made, gasses of chemical matter attracted to each other, accretions slowly forming until mass enough to hold itself together, spinning. The inherent energy in matter over the vast spaces of atoms or galaxies. Spherical, ovoid shapes are the strongest shape in nature, eggs, womb, evolved to keep the young safe. Using that shape in my artworks, endeavouring to capture the precious nature of it, imbued with dense meaning, with gravitas, yet also the lightness of joy and freedom.
A recent epiphany connected these ideas of a fascination with beautiful globular bodies to a childhood that was precarious, unsafe, unprotected. The realisation that, kept inviolate in an indeterminate place in our physical body, above the pain is the memory of self – golden, spherical, prismatic, all that makes us the best of who we are. The yearning for protection, yet also vast freedom. When out of our bodies the pain is numbed, but, joyously, the inherent power and beauty of our precious self has always been safe and protected.
I explore this limitless concept of personal iconography with joy through different media and techniques such as printmaking, painting, drawing and collage.
